Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Matt. 10:38

When Jesus invited the apostles to follow him, it wasn’t just an invitation to follow him around, it meant so much more. Following Him is a deep, spiritual transformation. It is an ongoing process of becoming more like Christ in character, mindset, and in purpose. It’s not just about behavior modification, but it’s about a renovation of the heart.
Spiritual Transformation
Spiritual transformation is the inner change that happens when a person surrenders to God and allows the Holy Spirit to shape their life. It’s the journey from living for self to living for God.
Jesus Said, “Follow Me.”
Jesus doesn’t just say, follow my rules, or follow my religion, He says, “Come, Follow, Me.”
He’s inviting people into a deep, personal relationship with Him. Not just to obedience.
This means walking with Him, daily, learning from His example, and trusting Him, in all things.
A Call to Discipleship
Jewish rabbis often had disciples who followed them closely, imitating their lives. It is in this context, that Yeshua, was calling the Apostles to follow Him.
Yeshua was calling His followers to be disciples, not just believers, but people who would learn His ways and live them out to teach others.
It’s a call to transformation. “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Matt. 4:19.
Priority Shift
When Yeshua calls, it transforms you in a way that causes your priorities in life to shift. When Yeshua called His disciples, they left their nets, boats, and even families to follow him.
It’s a call to surrender, letting go of worldly attachments, placing Him above all.
The call is not always comfortable, but it’s always purposeful.
A Journey of Faith
Following Yeshua is not a static faith. It implies movement. It’s a journey.
Yeshua does not lay out the map that you will follow, or how it will end. He simply says, “Trust Me. Walk with Me, and Follow Me.”
It’s a daily decision to pick up your cross and Follow Him, even when you do not know where the path may lead.

What This Means for Us Today
When you make the decision to Follow Him, you allow Him to transform your heart, mind, and your actions.
He calls us to be a part of His purpose and mission by loving others, serving the broken, and broken-hearted, and sharing the good news.
No matter what is in your past, He offers hope and redemption to all. His invitation is open. He doesn’t call the qualified–He qualifies the called.
Discipleship Today
The word disciple comes from the Greek mathetes, meaning “learner” or “student”.
A disciple studies Yeshua’s teachings, reflects on Scripture, and seeks wisdom through prayer and community.

Imitating His Life
Discipleship is about modeling your life after Yeshua – His compassion, humility, courage, love, honesty, and kindness.
It’s not just about gaining knowledge in your brain, it’s about changing your heart, and transforming it to align it with Yeshua’s.
Living Out Faith in Everyday Life
You don’t need to be a pastor or a missionary to be a disciple of Yeshua.
Discipleship happens in marriages, workplaces, neighborhoods, schools, and even online.
Every interaction has the opportunity to reflect the love of Christ, and for you to be a disciple and show His truth.
Choosing Commitment over Comfort
The original disciples of Yeshua forsook all to follow Him. Today, that could mean letting go of your pride, old habits, or distractions that are pulling you away from spending time with Him.
It’s a daily choice to walk in faith, even when it’s inconvenient or counter-cultural.
Making Other Disciples
Yeshua said, “Go and make disciples of all nations.” (Matt. 28:19).
That means sharing your faith with others, and mentoring them, helping others to grow spiritually.
You Can Do It
Being a disciple isn’t about being perfect; it’s about pursuing Yeshua. It’s saying, I want to know more about Him and how to love like Him. It’s about wanting to live for Him. And it starts right where you are.
May He Bless You and Keep You, Always
